Default Umm the water was toooo Deep!!! Any suggestions???

OK, went wheelin' behind the Sault yesterday, and got into a water hole that was a little deep for the YJ... 4cyl/auto... problem is that after I got it out and got it started and started driving home (1/2 to 1 mile before I noticed) there was a small amount of smoke coming out the back, turns out I managed to get some good old H2O into the transmission... and it was slobbering out onto the exhaust... mmmmmm Strawberry Milkshake..... So I had it flat towed home in neutral all the way around and with the engine off...

Now, what do I do to get the water out... I know drop the pan, filter, and let it drip, new gasket, filter, and put it back together, possibly 2-3 times after running it a little bit. Is that the best way to get it all out as I will not be able to drain the torque converter... Should I use a SeaFoam brand trans cleaner????

I need a little guidance please???

I would bring it to a trans shop and have it flushed ( I know there is a couple of shops there )

Bummer - been there done that.

I had mine flushed twice with the power flusher at Uncle Eds until the strawberry milkshake was back to healthy pink trans fluid, but apparently the 10 mile drive to Uncle Eds had already done the damage.

have it flushed a couple times, pulling the pan and filter will only let some of the fluid out. good luck, it may be toast already

Last year I had a issue kinda the same. Flushed the trans 4 times. Went through a gazillion quarts of fluid doing it.

A week after the flushing the trans still failed.

Thanks... called around to Trans shops, and explained what happened...

1 shop said - Trans WILL fail regardless
5 others said, flush it a couple of times... should be OK, and a couple even told me the best way to flush at home...

Can't figure out which shop was giving me the straight deal!!!

1 guy who wants to charge me $1200 to rebuild it now before I try to flush it and it fails or 5 guys who are trying to get $100 to $200 out of me now, then get me me again for $1200 when it fails??? or are they saying flush it and it will be OK????

I think I know it will fail, just kinda hoping a 5 gallon pail of trans fluid ($60 my cost) and a filter or two and maybe just maybe...

I spent near 200 bucks in flushing and filters to at least try. Can't hurt to try.

Then I installed a 600 dollar (US ) used trans.

Thanks... I'll be working on it later tonight....

Thanks all... I will be attempting multiple flushes... Bought a pail of Trans fluid, a can of Seafoam trans in a can, and a couple of filter kits...

This will be my steps, let me know if you see flaws...

1 drop pan and drain and replace filter

1.1 Captain Jerry's spice rum and coke...

2 refill and remove return line from trans cooler and pipe into empty pail

2.1 Captain Jerry's spice rum and coke...

3 run engine in park, then drive with foot on brake and allow fluid to run into pail while ensuring that the level stays up by adding more

3.1 Captain Jerry's spice rum and coke...

4 after a period of time or if the fluid starts to run clear into pail, I will stop replace return line, then add seafoam, and run for a quick run around town...

4.1 Captain Jerry's spice rum and coke... Get wife to drive me...

5 come home and drop pan, drain and replace filter again

5.1 Captain Jerry's spice rum and coke...

6 refill, and call it good, until she blows....

the tail of the zip tie hits things while the drive shaft spins, the bigger the zip tie the better

What trans are you running? The TF 999, 32rh, 30rh and maybe others have the vent behind the torque converter. Not that it will help this time, but you can prevent it from happening again by sealing the factory vent and drilling/tapping a new one on top of the trans. Then just run a vent hose as you would on an axle.
