I love my .223. You might want to look into them. They seem to be the tops on the list for varmint hunting. Easy shot out past 300 and still great in tight.

Whatever one you get, don't shoot full metal jacket unless you are hunting some heavy brush.. It passes thorough them like nothing without really opening up.

well i went up to the new mc sports and think that im gunna go with the 22/250. ive never shot the 223 and was thinking about getting one but that 22/250 is a beast of a gun for a little gun.

skip the 17hmr. just not enough oomph. ive got an old mex mauser in 250-3000 or 250 savage. works real nice. i think i got some "really hot" handloads left with 90 grain hornaday boat tails. they flat out truck!!!

the 22-250 or 223 or similar cartridge will work great. a 220 swift would be sweet though!

i got a 375 h&h mag you could borrow, very little clean up afterwords!

.17hmr is a nitch caliber, Too light in my opinion. 22/250 much better range ( I have a 40XB). 243 is a nice doggie round, can also shoot deer/antelope.

Both are excellent rounds for what you want... A .17 hMR will have no problems taking a yote @ 75-100 yrds with a good shot, after that the bullet drops off to fast, 6 inches at 150yrds. The flip side to this round is you can hunt other game as well (squrriels, crows, other varmints) I truly love mine.
The 22-250 is one of the top varmint rounds out there by far hands down. If you will be shooting long distances alot then definetly go with a cntrfire round.

No experience with 17HMR, 22-250 with a heavy barrel is like shooting a laser beam. 223 at 50-150 yrds would be plenty, and cheaper to shoot. When I had a local buddy to do handloads my 6.5x55 Mauser w/100gr hollow points was a great way to go since the rifle didn't change going between woodchucks and deer.

get 'em both!

I like my .17 HMR. NEF w/ bull barrel, synthetic stock, Burris scope and bipod. 1" groups at 100 yds. 3" groups at 200 yds.
Could probably get better, but I've only put 50 rds through it.
It will work on 'Yotes, BUT you have to have a well placed head shot. A bigger gun will work better.
