hey so i am thinking about getting the parts to do a straight axle conversion. on my 91 k1500 just wondering what parts i should go with and if it should be a leaf spring set up or a 4 link?? any ideas i would like to see it end up on 38's when it's done which means it will go from being an everyday driver to a offroad truck and just to tool around the town with. i also dont know if the old 4.3 will be a good engine to stay with or if i should consider maybe going with a V8 or 4bt cummins? i want to get all the parts first before i tear into it and because it will take awhile to get them with paying for college and everything plus i have to buy another harley so i can get shaker out of the house so he will actually use his bike instead of letting it sit in the garage.:poke: but hopefully i will have it done by summer

Couple of key things you said .
Just to drive around town ?
38 " tire ?
Well if that is your intent then just put a small axel under the front out of an older chevy 1/2 ton truck . leaf springs and all .
Or drive out M 55 past M 33 , see older red chevy on L . Save your self a lot of time and work . Seriously your truck with a V6 and ifs your beter to start over with an 87 or newer chevy , TBI 350 straight axel truck . You will end up with far less money in it .
Dont waste time with a Cummins 4 to drive around with . There a pooch , built in the real tradition of a diesel motor . Longevity not power . :marv:

the reason i say just to drive around town mean it wont be going down state all the time like it does now. so you think just leave it the way it is and start over with a new truck?

I think you would be money and time ahead . Chevy went TBI injected in Mid 87 and had a straight axel . You can find an older truck cheap and redo it . Doors and fenders are cheap for them trucks .
If you want something that will wheel hard look for a 3/4 ton of that vintage for the larger axles and your way money ahead .

so going with that i could just use the stock axles and just changes the gears, get the leafs redone for the amount of lift and throw blocks in the rear. then do minor engine work and the rest is a peice of cake:hehe:

that truck is rather scary to tell you the truth. some one took and shortened that truck up. it use to be a long box. they cut and welded the frame under the cab. my friend asked him how he welded it. he said all i know is if you get to pieces of metal hot enough they will fuse together. just for a heads up. but it sure looks cool
