I decided to do this swap with the t case still bolted to the trans, the jeep was lifted and fitted with bigger tires so it was easy for me to sit on the floor and work on it.

First I chauked the tires and placed the trans in neutral

I have found that the hood and block ground that bolts to the firewall behind the intake manifold gets tight when you lower the back on the engine on tjs, so i always remove the bolt and eyelit which adds more than enough slack to lower the trans/tcase

Next I removed the rear drive shaft and placed a jack and piece of wood on the tcase output, this allowed me to hold the trans and t case up to remove the skid plate.

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0681.jpg

Then removed the front drive shaft from the tcase

The jack was then moved to the bottom of the trans, a quality ratchet stap can also be used to hold the trans, tcase in position

Now it is time to remove the speedsensor

Notice the chewed up teeth on the gear, this will need to be replaced

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0683.jpg

Remove the bolts that secure the rear output housing

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0685.jpg

Picture of the inside of the housing

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0687.jpg

The oil pump for the tcase is located on the output shaft inside the output housing, this tcase had a bad seal on the pump

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0686.jpg

Here is what the tcace should look like now

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0689.jpg

Next Step is to remove all the bolts that bolt the two halfs of the tcase together and slowly split the case in half(There are flat surfaces made into the case to allow you to hit the case halfs apart with a soft faced hammer)

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0692.jpg

Here you can see me letting the fluid drain when the case was split.

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0691.jpg

Remove the rear half of the case and this is what you got

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0693.jpg

Stretched chain, no good

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0694.jpg

Next step is to remove the front output yoke. First remove the 1 1/8 nut then tap on the backside of the yoke to remove it from the front output shaft. Dont have any pics of this

After the yoke is removed the chain and rear output shaft can be removed

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0695.jpg

Here you can see the speedsensor splines on the old slip yoke output shaft

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0696.jpg

new output shaft with slots for new speed senor splines

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0697.jpg

The gears need to be removed from the old output shaft, first is this snap ring on the front of the output shaft

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0698.jpg

slips off all nice like

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0700.jpg

this one just slips off

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0701.jpg

Old output shaft

New shaft again

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0704.jpg

The gears for the tace need to be installed on the new shaft the exact opposite of how they were removed from the other shaft

New spped sensor splines compared to old one

new (used) output housing (the sye kit im installing was previously installed on another jeep)

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0707.jpg

Inside of the jerotor style oil pump

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0708.jpg

this is where the tube going to the oil pump plums in

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0709.jpg

previously mentioned tube

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0710.jpg

Place the new shaft, chain and front output shaft assembly into the case

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0711.jpg

Install the front output yoke and nut

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0712.jpg

Clean the mating surface of the rear t case half and slap some silicon on it

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0714.jpg

Install bolts and torque them down

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0715.jpg

Little trick i found, install the oil pump on the tube and rear half of tcase and slide in back on the shaft as one unit, or you will be fishing for that tube with a pick like me

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0717.jpg

not fun trying to hold this with a pick and install the oil pump

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0718.jpg

gots it, and installed the snap ring

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0719.jpg

Install the splines for the speed sensor and snap ring

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/landrollover/tech/231%20sye/IMGA0720.jpg

Apply sealant to the new output housing and bolt up.

Then install the new yoke and new rear drive shaft.

The rest is just a opposite of removal

enjoy your new vibration free rear drive shaft and better rear driveshaft angles :woot:

Did you replace the chain? It does not look much different, must not have been too bad, usually they drag on the bottom of the case when bad.
Also, how did that speedo gear get so chewed up?

Yes, A new rear driveshaft will be needed as you are eliminating the slip yoke shaft and replacing with a fixed yoke.

Any one that can follow directions and has a little bit of mechanical knowledge could probably do this install in a few hours taking thier time.

After doing about a half dozen or so it takes me about 40 mins. when I have all the parts. I always install a new chain when doing this upgrade due to high mileage on the TCs.

Replaced the chain, it looks bad becase the front output yoke is just barly on the shaft just to hold it up for the pic. Speedo gear got cheewed up from a previous improper installion

took me about 2 hours because I was taking pics and trying to think of how I was going to do the write up.New rear drive shaft and yoke like tippy said, I made that more clear in the write up :thumb:
