Recently I have been getting this noise every so often. It usually happens when I hit a bump, but not all the time. Anyways it sounds to me like it's coming from the front left wheel. it sounds like gears grinding or something. I had a passenger yesterday and he thought it was coming from the xcase. I could still see this coming from the same place that I thought, cause the noise from the left front would come up the tranny tunnel cover.

Anyways like I said it's a grinding that seems to shake in the pedals and throughout the whole vehicle. It does not go away with the clutch and the front driveshaft doesn't spin when it makes the noise. It seems to go up with speed not with RPM's. I thought it could have been my Superwinch lockout hubs since they keep coming loose(doing stud conversion soon) but then I would think that it would grab the driveshaft. I do have a locker in the front but I'm not thinking that it could be that cause if the driveshaft isn't spinning then the locker shouldn't be doing anything. I noticed that when I have the hubs locked in and parked in gear there is about 1/4 turn of free play side to side in the driveshaft. I tried locking my hubs in to see if it would go away. I have not heard the noise since, but I haven't really driven far enough to tell yet. I just wanted to see if anyone else has any thoughts.

more moving parts means more upkeep! I don't want my hubs always locked, then my carrier and driveshaft and locker are always spinning. that is more use than I would like to put my cheapie front locker though.
