In my opinion it was not tank trap caused. Looks more like lack of maintenance and shitty synthetic oil.
beefy, hank and tacoma king doing what they do best....work on their knees.
I told them the hoist goes up higher.

I dunno....Beefy took the pic.

Rod bearing is wore out. I would imagine the others are the same.
http://www.timstrader.com/web/tech/beefy-engine/engine3.JPG
The real bad stuff....ok main bearing on the top, bad one on the bottom. It totally spun at least one main bearing. This was my diagnosis before we took it apart. I really was hoping I was wrong. It tore up the crank a bit. It'll need to be turned.

Still kicking around ideas. Going to depend on cost of a used motor I think. Rebuilds aren't cheap with the machine work and all that.
Down time is another thing to think about. Depends on how long he wants the rig to be down. My time is limited so we have to look at all ends of this.

hell spin some new bearings in and run it, it's 3/4 of a 318 so it'll be fine

We could do some contract geek gigs and then blow all my iShare money on parts and labor. :D Im doing a good job of spending it right now; a tablet for gps, gps module, new cross drilled rotors, laptop for the wife.. And still need to buy a new bumper, spare, hi-lift, and front locker.

Not that I am on the same level of geekdom as you, but I can fetch coffee with the best of them.

you know there is room for a 318 in that engine compartment being that they did come with them. If you're going to look for an engine, look for the 318 and harness and ecm and any other oddities you may need. Your gas consumption really isn't going to change much from a big V6 to a small V8. It's only money! Good luck my friend. Let me know if you're going to hit up any junkyards. I need some stuff too

every one has their own opinion about synthetic oil most of it is good as long as you change it at the most of every 5000 miles

Well yes and no. You ever work on one with a 318 in there? It blows goats. Besides, a 318 swap is going to be a hell of lot more expensive than fixing what he has and be 4 times the work.

A year is 12 months.:poke: Besides I think you were putting a little more stress on it then the average engine sees.

Yeah, running it for about a year through dirt, mud, and sand probably doesn't give it a good name. I figure if GM recommends it for their Corvettes, and Cadillac's XLR's, CTS's, and STS's and more that I can't think of right now, specifically Mobil 1, I'm sure synthetic oil is a good thing, when used properly

Yeah, I work w/ syn and non-syn oil. I run Castrol Syntech in my jeep and STILL CHANGE IT every 3500-4k miles. I cringe if a customer brings me that Amsoil shit. The bottle says 25, 000 mile interval. If it were THAT good, then it would be more widely used (although more $), especially now w/ all the high oil prices. DON'T BE CHEAP! CHANGE YOUR OIL! And yes, that's my Professional Opinion, because I AM Mr. Goodwrench you know!:woot:
Tacoma King
07-23-2008, 01:47 PM
syn oil does not break down like non syn does which in theory would mean you can go longer.
But the thing that you have to keep in mind is that your oil does get dirty even if it is not breaking down.
So the longer you leave it in your car it is just that much more dirt and crud grinding on the insides of your motor.
so no matter what you use I would never go over 4,000 miles before a change I change mine every 3,000
kickstand
07-23-2008, 02:00 PM
I run old school dinosaur oil for at least 10,000 miles before doing an oil change. Any more often then that and your pissing money away. HOWEVER on an offroad only rig you have to take into account the added shit it sees in the form of dirt, dust, mud, long idling periods, times you may lose oil pressure, etc.
I change the oil in my jeep 2 or 3 times a year....I MIGHT put 500 miles on that jeep this year, but its very unlikely. Its hard to tell from the pictures, but I would say that oil had some play in the failure, but it also doesn't really look that bad to me, oversized bearings, smooth the crank with an emery cloth and back together.
