Spent the day with Zach , 10 year old grandson hunting here on the property .
Total deer count 18 for the day . Passed up a spike horn this morning and sort of got suckered this after noon .
5:00 PM Zach spoted a buck behind us , 5:15 he came into site again but was in a thicket . We could see arounded set of horns and had a clear shot between 2 trees so we took him . Turns out to be long spikes .
Oh well no trophy but there is a damn happy 10 year old that just headed home .
I had two great moments today . They sounded like this .
1 " Grandpa i really like hunting with you "
2 " Man i cant wait until im old enough to hunt "
Thats what makes it great .

Nice work Zach, not many kids would let an old fart look good by letting him claim the deer.

Zachery had a wonderful time. Use to be that I would be really concern with Zachery seeing a deer get shot, but he understands it and it has never bothered him. The first time he went hunting/ saw a deer get shot was with his dad, well the deer ran and Brian and Zachery had to track it and Brian said that it was a good thing Zachery was there and close to the ground because Brian might not have seen the blood trail, and Zachery was all excited because he found it and told me alol about it when he got home.

I had a staring contest for 10 mins with a 29 lb. button buck, and 4 does that like to keep running circles around my blind (blind= milk crate under a maple tree) so no kills yet, but come second week...those does will be pretty tasty.

Got my little 4 point opening day. Still have the 2nd tag. All I've seen since were does, but haven't been out since Monday. Already have jerky made.

Here is the one Dad got this morning!

It appears to be on the way down on the rack size. It is a good size deer, big head and hoofs. He is going to check the teeth to see about an age later.
Your right G-man, hunting makes memories that last forever. I have been hunting with Dad for almost 40 years now..
Here was camp this year.

Thanks, it's Dad's baby. He paid 300 bucks for it and pretty much rebuilt the whole thing. It works great for what he uses it for.
