SO i'm trying to help my parents diagnose a no start issue with their motorhome.
They put in a new battery, and get a clicking (i'm guessing solenoid).
This is like a 1994 motorhome, Chevy chassis TBI 454.
1) is the solenoid integrated into the starter or are they seperate?
2) wheres the starter at?
I wont be there until saturday but want to have my head around it when i get there to make this painless. They said all the connections look good.

Hey, I have a 454 in my 94 motorhome...... Sounds like either not enough juice, or the starter is fried. The starter should be on the passengers side.

They already put in a new fully charged battery to no avail.
That was why i had them check the connections, they said they all seemed good. I already told them most likely it will be a starter, maybe i'll just buy a good one from Napa and bring iit instead of whatever crap they end up buying

Solenoid is on the starter but can be seperated. Sounds like thats it. You may be able to just buy the soleniod for that one.

Im guessing this is a cold start issue . New battery may not be getting good connection .
If it makes a TICK TICK TICK sound look for connection issues first .
If its more of a solid clunk id say starter . You can smack that starter with a hammer while some one holds the key in the start postion . If that kicks it over the starter is shot .
These also had a hot start issue . The start would get so much heat on it you had to either put some ice on or just let it set . The heat shield was gone most of the time i seen that happen .

It's definitely a cold start issue. They barely ever use it and were trying to get it moved to put into storage.
my dad thinks he's knows about cars but in reality doesn't know much more than my mom. And all i got was it make a click with the new battery which is why i was thinking solenoid.
I figured i'll smack it with the dead blow a bit, but have a feeling it just needs a new starter
