x2. I am going to do a writeup here when I get back home on the trailer that Sam and I built over the summer.....a lot of work:banghead:, but we got it done. All 95 degrees and everything. Its a serious project, and WILL end up being more than you originally thought:poke:

starting from scratch would not be that hard. 1 day of welding and cutting with 2-3 people going at it. one cutting steel, 1 welding, and 1 preping welds.
thats with out decking and all that such.

I've allways wanted to build one. The one we have is to narrow for my jeep with the 36"ers on. If you had the axles, tongue, chop saw and welder...it wouldn't be too bad

Unless you can get a very good deal on the steel becareful , you could end up with more in it then you can buy one for . The guys that built these in large quanity get the steel much cheaper then the average person .
Then the wood decking , tires every thing is bought in quanity so they can actual build it and sell it cheaper then you can build it some times .

Yeah that is totally true. Our family business has an account through Harbor Steel in Muskegon. So atleast i can get that at a discount. I like the idea of building my own to fit my uses. There is a guy on M-20 in Oceana county who sells them at a good price. Another local fab shop in montague can build one for around 1200.00 if you have the axles and tongue.

I know a few people that have built their trailers, and all of them said never again!
It ends up costing near enough to the price of one that it's worth your time building it just to buy one

You can pickup an angle iron car hauler for what? $1200 with used tires and a junk jack?
If your careful, you can build an angle iron trailer with new tires, and pretty nice parts for right around that. Or you can splurge and build a box frame with LED's and aluminum wheels for around $2000 - $2200 ish.
The only real benefit to building your own is you get it the way YOU want, and you build it the right way. It will certainly last a lot longer than the junk you can buy. But most times it will be more money.
To buy a NICE trailer, that will last a long time, and is not a piece of crap your looking at $2500 easy.

I have a trailer that cost me $1500 new (all dexter parts) only thing is it came with car tires not trailer tires. no biggie for a fix though. extremly nice and hauls great just ask Sam or Mongo they have hauled with it before.. I will agree with you, your looking at $2000+ for a very nice trailer off of a trailer dealers lot.
If he was going to build a trailer from scratch it would be made of C-channel not angle. atleast for the main frame rails.
