Have you looked under the truck? Your year should be a cable driven speedometer. Remove one bolt and the retaining ring and the speedometer gear and its housing will pop out.
Go here for more info on the speedo gears. http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/Speedogear.html

Thanks. Ive been under it several times unfortunately. There is a cable, but there is a sencer w/ two wires coming from it. Is this the speedo sencer or the vss and are they the same? The equasions on the link that was posted require some values that I dont have. Before I never worried about it, but the old lady will be driving it to work and such. I really dont want to make her angry, I dont like it when shes angry, I pee my pants a little.

wires are for the EFI setup, and engine management. under that is your speedometer gear.
I'm short on time with a trans rebuild in my tj, so I cant help much right now.
Search around the ranger station, or sign up and post there. You should find the help you need.

Got it all figured out. Thanks for the time. My computer is goofy or I have a bad v-ref issue. The speedo is not important if the rig wont run right...... Im scared.
