BTW We have some new camp cooking in store for those who go! My friend and I are into cast iron cooking on the fire. So we are looking at different things that we can create for us. In the dog show world we travel in we are well known for being "the hospitality queens."

For the long weekend! Mudrunner is acquiring cast iron utensils left and right. I now have a 14" skillet that could seriously injure the unsuspecting soul who irritates me! :hehe: Currently trying to get Bruce to make his famous meatballs, and who knows maybe some ribs and chicken. Also looking to do some in the ground cooking too.

I sent you a pm but I'll ask on here too, Are we planning to camp in the middle of no where or find a campground with a few modern amenities? I was looking at the michigan.org website and found some really cool places. The best one I found has rustic campsites all the way up to cabins to rent, with a really cool enclosed pavilon with grills and tables. the rates aren't to bad and it is located by lots of trails... What does everyone think?

we would like to find an area like we had last year, but big enough so every one is together not spread out, we need to set down and plan the menu for each day and where to camp and where to wheel.:woot: we are not doing it like last year, this way there will be no problems, we also will tread lightly and take out everything we brought in and then some to do our part. mudrunner

I talked to PurpleRhino about a spot and he has a perfect one that is big enough for all of us but still pretty remote. It's on the river and nice and flat. There is a state park about 6-8 miles away to go take showers at and the local stores are about 20 minutes. I thought this sounds like a pretty good location... He will have to give more info on anything else about the spot...

he talked before about a 40 acre lake that is remote, myself I would rather play in a lake as opposed to the river

We will have to get as many people together as we can to have a meeting and have PurpleRhino tell us about the different spot and make a choice about where to go... I think the spot at the lake is pretty small, like 4 spots, and it costs $15.00 a night to camp there... if I am remembering right

Went to walmart and they have the 5 gallon shower bags for like $6-$7 and they are good for 2 showers. Just a thought!

The 40 acre lake is Canoe Lake state forest campground between Munising and Grand Marais it has 4 campsites, vaulted toilets and a pitcher pump. It is very remote, but it is also $15/night and the lake has a very soft mud bottom, not conducive to playing in, although there is good perch and pike fishing there. The area Karless was referring to is on the "Romantic" Two Hearted River. I do know of another spot on several ponds, but ther isn't a lot of space for camping, a couple of miles from the spot on the river. There is a lake called Bear Lake, it is about 15 miles NE of Paradise (as the crow flies) it is closer to a 100acre lake with lots of open space on a large beach for camping, although that is really the only viable spot to camp there. The big drawback to this spot is the fact that nobody could tow anything back in there, unless they had one of those lifted outback trailers. I also stressed as the crow flies, because I found that lake while taking an 8 mile shortcut that took 8 hours to traverse without trailers! I will bring my map and some video tapes so we can go over everything together and get a better idea of what will work best for everyone.:marv::thumbsup:

Yes it is open to anyone that would like to join us. I'm still not sure whether I'm bringing my boat yet, but I will definitely have our canoe. You might want to bring a helmet if you are slow on your feet so you can deal with the flying pots and pans.:marv::thumbsup:

as I have posted I believe on other site, I am in the process of buying all the cast iron cook ware we could need for any meal, the silly red head and her dog show friends always eat well when at shows so there is no reason we should not be able to also, we need to have some menu ideas so we can try them out before hand, at the pig roast I want to try a few dishes out to see how it goes.

That's not a bad idea, and will have a couple of things that Terri, Bruce and I will try out on you guys then! Bruce makes the best meatballs, and I've got ideas on how to make them when roughing it. We will have the oppourtunity to perfect them between the pig roast and Labor Day. The dog show people love our cooking! :hehe: And they make pretty good guenia pigs too.....
couple of things that are kicking around.... cherry cobbler new and improved method, Phillycheese steak pizza, meatballs, Joe's BF Ribs, BBQ Chicken... Send me your ideas, I can probably figure out a way to cook it on the fire!

Depends on who we have at home to care for the beasts! I know of a couple that would come, as they don't do well without the mommy! (Terri)

We still haven't settled on an exact location yet, but I believe we have narrowed it down to some place north of M28 and between Whitefish Point and Grand Marais:ha:Actually more than likely between Paradise and the mouth of the Two Hearted River, but we are still not sure. We are planning on getting together and all having a pow-wow over it, but I don't think anyone is in much of a hurry considering how far off Labor Day is. We will keep you posted up to date as the plans evolve.:marv::thumbsup:

You just need a couple dutch ovens. You can make anything in them. I've made pizza, spaghetti, cobbler, stew, soup, cinnamon rolls, mac & chz, cornbread, whatever.. you name it, it can probably be made in a dutch oven.
