Got big axles? Got big tires? Got big brakes? Then your little master cylinder isn't going to cut it.

This is a quick down and dirty writeup on upgrading the MC. The Ford MC moves about 50% more fluid to fill big calipers.

Ok, first you have to drill out the holes to 9/16.

Then fit it to the vacuum booster. You have to SLOWLY grind where the blue arrow is. I used a sanding disk. The metal is soft and goes fast. You will understand why you have to do this when you try to install the MC in the booster.

Hook your brakes up and yer done. Super simple. Took longer to get the part than to install it. I haven't hooked up my brakes though so maybe that's why it went so fast. :hehe:

FYI...this isn't anything ground breaking. This info is on the net if you search hard enough. I just wanted to put the important info like vehicle and part numbers together for people.

Will this work on a Cherokee booster? I'm not starting my build till next summer, but it would be good to know ahead of time.

I believe if you have the cast MC then it will work. If you have the aluminum one I don't think it works. Not 100% sure though.

This only increases your braking if you have large volume calipers though.

I don't have the cast MC I have the other one. I think 98 dodge 2500 is the equivalent to the cast MC if you're looking for one that is a Aluminum/ Plastic MC. Vetteboy on Pirate I know is running something similar.

If you were going through all this effort (and plan on tapping your steering box for hydro-assist anyways), why didnt you put in a hydroboost (http://www.stu-offroad.com/suspension/vanco/hydroboost-1.htm) master instead?

I followed the on on pirate. Did you have to use adaptors to connect the lines to the master cylinder?

Buggy Tim

I didn't use adapters because I am going to run all new brake lines anyway. I just bought the correct nuts to screw into the master.
