If you’re interested in experiencing some of Michigan’s most unique and scenic terrain, then you may want to consider attending the Mud, Sweat & Gears’ trail riding event Drummond Off-Road Adventure on August 26th – 29th, 2010. The island is located about an hour north-east of the Mackinac bridge, in Lake Huron. D.O.A is open to all full-size ORVs, so whether you are a beginner who is interested in sharpening your driving skills or if you’re a seasoned pro seeking a challenge in more rugged terrain, the island has something to offer to trail riders of all types. Either at the banquet dinner on Saturday evening or around the campfire later on that night, everyone gets to share their stories of worst-stuck or best recovery!

While the trail riding on Drummond is great, there are many activities that make this event one of the most memorable trail rides offered in the region. You’ll want to keep your camera handy; you never know when you might catch a glimpse of a grazing deer, or a bear on the move. If you plan on staying a few extra days beyond D.O.A., there are many activities you can do to enjoy the island to its full potential including golf at one of Michigan’s finest courses, fantastic fishing, or just relaxing on one of the beautiful sandy beaches.

If you want to find a bear, you could always triangulate MuddyPaws' cell phone signal.. I hear the bears like his phones.

OK, so if you hadn't already figured this out...

BF Goodrich will be joining us at this years DOA to present the Outstanding Trails Award to the Drummond Island ORV Routes (and the involved parties that made that possible).

Also rumored to be present are many of the people that worked so hard to make the DI ORV Routes a reality, Mike Olmstead, Steve Walker, Pat Halfrish, and our very own Bob Devore. (Moderators, feel free to add names here as I know I am missing a few...)

The entire island is buzzing with excitement about receiving this award and Mud Sweat and Gears 4x4 Club is honored to be a part of this celebration. This will be a "DOA" like no other. You will not want to miss this one!

I am going for sure. Already have the time booked.

I might not be staying at the same campground though. I heard it has a long way to go in order to make it ready for camping.

I called him the other day about staying there in June for the weekend GLFWDA is in town. He says he has sites ready w/electric and water, bath house done, but frantically trying to get the lodge/meeting hall done for his daughter's wedding in July, scheduled to take place in the lodge. It's just me, my dad and my son that weekend and we are pretty well self-contained if he is not 100% ready by then, although even with no wife around #2 in a casette toilet in a popup is only slight above primitive!

I'll have to widen the road out there. I still have to get out there and see if I can get my camper out there.

Let us know how it looks. Having the bath house done is a big move in the right direction. Last I heard, it wasn't complete.

And yea, #2 in a pop up is the suck. Even if it's a big pop up like we used to have.

I keep trying to register and buy a weekend only membership but it keeps trying to charge me $50.00 instead of $5.00. Is there an additional $45.00 event fee or something?

I talked to the owner this weekend. Things are shaping up quickly. :thumb: The building is up, they will be ready for us this year (August, I can't say what kind of shape you will find it in in June), last year it was a mud bog!

There will be sites with water and electric (50 Amp), dump station on site. There are also a bunch of primitive sites.

$20 for water/electric
$15 for Primitive

ok., so i have a 5 gal. gas tank can carry 10 with a gas can, will there be plenty of time to go and refill or will this be a fairly long haul where i might have to worry about enough fuel. At some of the offroad parks i can wheel half a day then refill and go back again and again if i need to. How will this trip be, just want to be prepared?.

Unless your vehicle is a total gas hog 10 gallons should be enough to get you through a day. If you aren't sure, bring an extra gas can because you'll have to run half way or farther) across the isle to get gas. I used about a 1/4 tank in the 5 last on last years run. It was an all dayer with a lunch stop at Marblehead, never saw a gas station the whole trip.
