maybe angle the windshield bars back and add some angle braces from the main hoop to the back of the cage (like a factory cj cage has)

more angles to the rear. away from windhshield and from the top bar on the front to the top bar on the rear. crazy angles!

I hope you want an honest critque .

Why the 4 bars at the floor ? Looks like 2 to put the seats on but why not use the floor and save the weight . The two at rocker level ? i just dont see them adding strenght as you are tied into the frame near by .

No intent of belittling your design and i think this is a great post .

I altered this post because i was looking at the photo wrong :hehe:

g-man, i believe he cut the back half off of his cj and is replacing it with a tube frame/rollcage.

ha ha ha then im looking at this bass ackwards . I thougth the smaller area was to protect the engine bay . His windsheild has no obstrcutions at that rate and it makes a lot more sense :hehe:

Thats funny Grandman, I was thinking either roof bars like they are or trianglulate them a little more, rather then just running them straight. As for the seat bars across the floors, I read that the seat should be attached to the roll cage, also Im putting new seats and they have no riser's on them, its just seats so I thought about just doing them like that.
However this is all just a first drawing, and I just had enough time to get this done today, its just kind of a genral idea I came up with.
I do know what you mean about over building things as if you were hitting the wall at 200mph.

Grandman I edited the 1st picture to make it a little more clearer:hehe::hehe:

Also there are now seats in the back, just a FYI for everyone. However I dothink I will ad a few bars towards the back, Well see

I may convert the Grand cage to fit the GMC at some point , I am not arguing about the value of a cage but seems im runing a metal roof rig im less worried then a soft top jeep should be .

Now that i know which way im going so to speak i think id add bars from the top of the main cage to the back corner of the rear section .

you need allot more triangulation. On a side roll the cage will fold over some.

get rid of the inner two parallel crossbars and run a "v" shaped setup starting at the outer A pillar, and triangulating at the middle of the B pillar tube.
Continue from triangulated at the B pillar tube and extend to each outer C pillar tube.
Add a straight tube from the outer B pillar to the outer C pillar.

behind the front seats would be stronger with an "X" shaped piece, and will add more triangulation.

It's not a bad start. The problem I see with it is that there are virtually no triangles. Rectangles and squares aren't as strong. You have a couple triangles in there but they are a bit small and only cover half of the crush areas. Here's some pics of cages that I've grabbed over the years.

Poison spyder - Don;t care for the dash mounting style but the rest of the cage is nice

Here's my thoughts on your design. Only done in MS Paint and I'm not a fabricator engineer or roll cage designer, this is all keyboard knowledge....
