Hi folks,
Just wanted to share some information. This is on GL and PBB so you may have already seen it.

In this thread
http://www.greatlakes4x4.com/showthr...929#post865929

I offered up some new information as cut-n-pasted below.

As a former experimental engine builder/engineer for one of the Big 3 and a builder of many a hi performance engine. This one of my favorite subjects.

Those that know the stroker engine in the YJ have a taste. Custom rods, pistons, crank etc.

First read this:

http://www.lnengineering.com/oil.html

Castrol makes a Syntec oil for "older" vehicles. It is made with plenty of ZDDP.

http://www.castrol.com/castrol/gener...tentId=7032644

As do many other companies. Brad Penn, Redline, Royal Purple, Joe Gibbs etc.

GM quit selling EOS in June of 2007. It has been repackaged under the AC-Delco name as part number 10-421. AC-Delco began shipping in the second week of November. Many of dist. don`t even have the updated information.

http://www.acdelco.com/html/pi_vehcare_lub.htm

Note this link has the OLD part numbers

Lucas Oil has this

http://www.lucasoil.com/products/dis...tid=3&loc=show

It won a "Best New Product" award at the recent SEMA show in Vegas.

Rotella and other diesel oils are fine also. The thing to look for is the ANSI symbol on the bottle.

CI=Good stuff
CJ=The new reduced ZDDP low emission oils which means you do not want to use it.

Regular motor oil with the ANSI of SH and below are ok also. There are better choices but it will work.

Use it or risk wiping a lobe and increasing valve train wear.

That is all.

ok so I'm working at a parts store right now and went out to check whats on the shelves. the only oil that looks like it might work(we are currently out of rotela) is the parts master 15W-40 but I'm not really sure. It's rated CI-4, CH-4, CG-4, and CF/SL. so would that later rating make it not truely CI rated or is it just supose to be good for all of those?

EDIT: I guess it doesn't have the CJ listed anywere so it's probably fine.

Yep, the CI oil you listed would be fine. As it meets CF rating that would mean then it has lots of the ZDDP in it. Snatch it up or hide it behind the Rotella that comes in.

Its morning , ill read all the links later .

Im not an oil guru but i have seen some boo boos on oil .

Extreme example i seen . Old tractor running none detergent oil , owner thinks newer is better and puts in Rotella which is a well known high quality oil . How ever when you put it in an old tractor that ran none detergent oil it makes a mess quick :hehe:
