View Full Version : Side window protection on a XJ?

ok, anyone see any good ideas about protecting the side windows on a XJ? Something higher than a simple rail at the bottom of the window. That seems not to be the issue. It needs to be higher.

Just looking for ideas.

best look i have seen is over on pirate... black xj kinda. the roll cage comes out at the front and then hugs the roofs corner till tying back into the roll cage.

Or look at grandmans very simple setup on his jimmy

I have thought about the g-man setup but it seems I keep hitting things much higher on the rig. I don't think his design would work for what I need.

what about something like this, i know its a rough design, but i think it would look neat and help it from not getting crushed

Do something like the SG rover racks. I cant find any pics of a half rack right now, but its like the one in the pic below but just covers the back. you could make the bars mount under the rain gutter clamps to protect the windows and throw your spare on top of the rack.

I suggest you start over with something that you don't have to keep worrying about.

hahahahahaha

The real bottom line is that I was freaked out with Nicholas back there. If the window would have went, there would have been glass everywhere.

I think I like the lexan idea.

Something like this, but on the sides. Use your worst students. Should work well, and encourage your lesser performing students to pick it up a notch.

I can get you some armor bars off of a couple of windows from one of the vacant houses in Flint.

I've always liked the look of a mild Exo-Cage with window guards myself..

grandman had a slick setup on his Jimmy was a simple square tube mounted just under the window as to make it so it would hit the trees before the window........
this is kinda how i am gonna do mine

I think the Jimmy is shaped differently than a XJ. I seem to hit the sides of it higher rather than lower. I have smushed the rain gutter more than once. Whatever I do it will have to be something higher on the window. I saw Marv bust a window once and he hit his low on the rig that time too. Perfect for the protection he installed.
