Doesn't seem like a bad idea, but at $40/pair, you'd be at $160 for just four lights(two front, two back, 4 belly) and in that case, it seems pretty impractical. The lights themselves would be real cool, just too much.
http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=933736 the LED pods posted in that thread would be real cool, but it seems that they don't spread enough to be practical.

Those pods are like WAY more than the ones I posted.
I am still kicking around the idea of a full LED underbody ricer style kit. Just don't know if they toss enough light.

I had an underbody kit on my show s10. I dont think it would hold up to well offroad, one of mine shatterd while going over a speedbump.

Have you considered recessing lights in your rocker guards?
Seems with LED's the opening could be pretty small and wouldn't have to worry about having a hard time holding up.

I don't know why they wouldn't hold up if you put them in the right spot. And i'm talking about LED, not neon so it would be more durable.

How the hell did you smash them on a speed bump when they were mounted to the side of the frame? You would have had to dent the frame enough to reach the lights.
Something tells me there is more to this story.

Dident smach it on a speedbump. The tubes are just junk. They always had moisture in them, i even took them off durring the winter. They also dont put out much light, Ive installed a few kits on lifted trucks and wasent impressed. Id look into those led pods if your looking for something with alot of output. Being a broke college student im going with the $18.00 for 4 harbor freight lights.

This seems like a good thing for you Tim.
"Another feature for the recreational user is it’s built in microphone for interfacing a vehicle’s stereo system to control the tempo of the lights. Included wireless remote control can activate Tantrum from up to 1000 feet, with 4 buttons controlling all of its features. Colors available are be super white, blue, red, amber, green, purple and 7 color changing. "
Can also be turned as normal rock lights:woot: Plus they look super bright, just not sure about the $$

I have seen those on a rig and...well...less than impressed. In my opinion you would need 8 of those for proper light and they are 20-25 bucks each so that's $160 to $200 bucks.

On Shaffers website, it says that kit cost is $99....but if you order through Pirate you get a discount off that. Doesnt seem like too bad a deal to me for what you are actually getting?:wtf:

Why doesn't that asshat just post a price? 3 fricken pages of "How much?" and not a single picture of them in action.

If you look on his website the cost is $99, I didnt understand why he didnt post a price either, but on Pirate they usually have a discount on pricing versus the website....so they want you to PM them to get the lowest price? Thats how it is with a good amount of stuff I have got on there

If you're just looking for Bling factor, does it really matter how bright they are?

I'm always skeptical of leaded LEDs for floodlight applications. Yeah, for tail lights with lenses, they are nice and bright. But the viewing angle doesn't need to be more than a few degrees on them. I just haven't seen any leaded whites, though, that can match the intensity + emitter pattern of surface mount parts.
The issue is that an LED with just two wire leads must rely on those little wires to pull all of the heat out of that part. It just can't do it, so the power handling is very limited. Note how to generally don't see any high-performance LED flashlights using these parts anymore.
When you have a surface mount part, like the Luxeons, Crees, etc, the LED itself has a thermal slug on the die. That is bonded to a thermal core circuit board which allows extremely good heatsinking. Even then, those little boards should be screwed to a bigger heatsink with thermal paste to really get good power dissipation.
You know me and how I love LEDs. I really have found a cheap/shortcut way of getting around spending ~$200 to get a nice set of LED rock lights.
My old set, I have maybe $75 into, they work *ok* but I want more light. My new set that I'm building will be about 3 times as bright, plus I'll have more of them.
Now, on the subject of whether they are needed or not, I LOVE having them. I like night wheeling, and I love technical crawling. So having them on there is nice.
Where I've really found them handy, though, is as work lights. I think I use them the most for this function. They are especially useful when i'm parked on the trailer, as it reflects light back up. I don't generally need any other lighting for working under the truck at night. Its also VERY nice for tying/untying the truck from the trailer.
On the Jeep, I'm planning 6 lights, 1 in each corner and one in the center of each rocker. I'll still use halogens for my big front/rear floods, though, unless I see/make something better.

No they don't, I tried it on the XJ. Its only good enough to impress the 17 year old girls at the local high school. :ha:
And I had them under my jeep for about two years before one of the housings actually cracked. never had any moisture problems, or anything like that.
