Me, my buddy Fatwreck, and BlueXJ (riding shotty with me) hit up the Cliffs for a little wheeling trip last Saturday. We showed up at the park and we were the only ones there.....we had the place to ourselves all day.
We started off the day not having heat in either rig. I finally got mine working after realizing it was a missing fuse, but Fatwreck just kept blowing fuses. That sucked.
Most of the day was spent flopped from one side to another.....with quite a few high rpm launches. The best part of the day which we didn't get on video though. I was climbing over one of the few rocks that we saw throughout the day. My back end slid over and I started to flop. It was on 2 wheels and I pretty much could have drunk the water on the ground outside my drivers window through a straw. It was a slow flop and I realized it basically to the ground so I cut left and gave it a little throttle and it somehow came back down on all fours. It was sick! No video or pics but I do have witnesses :flip:
BIG thanks to Tom (I think that was his name) from the Cliffs for being our personal trail guide for the day.

Here's the best stuck of the day.....I couldn't get out of the parking lot. Fatwreck had to strap to my trailer and get my moving.

its about an hour SW of Chicago. its about the same drive as it would be to the Badlands. From my place, which is basically on the way to either one, it was actually closer.

its a lot of fun if you've got your rig set up right, dont mind mud, and dont care about a few dents.

That place reminds of of The Mounds.
Every time a group goes to the mounds, someone always hydro's their motor.
Every time a group goes to the Cliffs, they end up on their side.....usually multiple times.

jeeptj1999, Jeeperz Creeperz, and I did a two day trip last year. it was a lot of fun. there's a IL state campground about 10min from the park.

Let me guess. Your next mod will be led taillights?
BTW - did you know your headlights were on? he he!

"lights on for safety" right? :flip:
next mod will more than likely be either a full tube chassis with my shit on it. Or an MJ/2dr XJ that is chopped, dovetailed, and exo'd. i'm sick of hearing the sound of crunching sheetmetal

Either one would be fun. I got kind of sick of the Badlands this year but I'd go back. There's also some stuff at the Cliffs I'd like to try again minus the snow.

I think they just finished it this past fall. Lots of room in the front half to gather in. I guess the rear half is going to possilby be a full service shop. My buddy was back there and he said that they've got stacks of tires and a bunch of parts they're going to start selling. They guy that was leading us for the day, Tom, was going to be running the shop.

I went here last fall. it was a great time. the Badlands & The Cliffs are pretty much the same distance from my house. I had more fun @ the Cliffs then I've ever had @ the Badlands. Been to the Badlands 5 times in the last 3 years.

I think the Cliffs is better if you're looking for trail riding, Badlands is better if you're looking to play in the rocks.

They have a wheelbase and tire size limit, so you'd have to see if you fit into their guidelines first.
Second, depending on wheelbase, you could probably get through most of it but it would be tight.

I heard the wheel base was like 110". Im under that and im under the 40" tire limit.

there are some spots where my XJ on full width axles barely fits. i bet for the most part you'd be okay but i'd definatley give them a call and see what they think. they're really good guys and wouldnt steer you wrong. or talk with Cooter on GL4x4, he's a regular at the Cliffs.
