ok, it this $30 per person for the gig, plus $15 a day park pass and plus $5 per person a night camping???
yes the gig is $30 which included 2 breakfasts and the pig dinner with all the fixings
park prices are normaly $20 bucks a day for having the gig there its $15 a day per rig per day not person
he wants $5 bucks per tent or camper per night which is primative campings only. lots of trees so there will be good shade for an august pig gig

Yogi have you picked another nearby campground as a Plan B for those of us married to "non-primitive-camping" spouses?
Can motorhomes park there to camp? $30 is a pretty good deal for 2 breakfasts and a full piggy dinner. I look forward to seeing this newer park too.

For the most part yes, as they will be sober (although the old dodger likes "da beer"), although they do like the snuggling, muzzle rubs, smooches and ear sniffs...kinda like the usual guy out drinking on a saturday night..hahahahaha.. but as far as barking, biting, and going totally nutzo, they are pretty mellow fellows:shixxle:....

Jim, I don't think you should cancel it either. Right now, I think you will have a smaller turnout than in years past due to other things going on that weekend (MIS and Dream Cruise). However, I think you will still have a good group of people turn up for the event.
I can tell you from experience the last two years, not a lot of people planned to attend this far in advance. It was closer to June before people started planning to attend, so I would say mid to late May at least for you.
Hopefully it will be another good event, sorry that I will miss it due to a prior engagement.

05-11-2009, 06:05 PM
ok I will speak up.
My thoughts Jim. There is months of work that go into putting on the pig gig. Not knowing numbers to plan makes it almost impossible to plan the event. With so many loosing there jobs the future is unknow for a bunch of people.
What I would suggest if you wanted to continue the event would be for people to come and enjoy each others company. and take some of the presure off yourself and not do the fund raising, raffels etc. Most businesses are hurting this year also. I think you enjoy cooking Pig, I understand that but you almost need a group of people to help you with putting on a big meal. if you find one of the groups to help out and they can take on the responsiblity of collecting the money and taking care of the food for profit for there group or to donate the extra money may be the way to get yourself out of the fustration of people always asking and pointing fingers at you. You have to get a pig roaster, tables , chairs, fire pits, because everyone now want's two so the kids have a place to hang. They want bathrooms and showers. And everyone wants it all for cheap.
Then there are the handfull of people that like to make things as ruff as they can for you. Which i will never understand when they have no idea what it takes to put on a event like the gig and keep everyone happy from will you let our dog come, to are the kids all free and do you have games to keep the busy?
thats a good idea iam up for that and will switch to a greta get together pot luck dinner

Looking like some of us from SWMJ are going to try and make it up.
As far as I can tell, this is a kids friendly event, right? If so, will there be a party side and quite side to the camping? Just wondering because if we we (my family that is) can come it would involve my 3 year old (who loves offroading, just don't spill her Cheetos) and it would be nice to be able to set up tents away from the party pit.

Some questions,
As far as trail rides, will all trail rides be with-in the park or will there be trail rides outside the park?
If you want to camp at the park for the entire event, are you also required to purchase a park pass for the entire event?
I know this has been asked already, but I'm unclear what the answer was, are dogs alowed in the camping area?
Thanks.
there are no scheduled trail rides outside the park but if a few want to explore leota trails you can
camping is 5.00 per night/ event price is 15.00 per day /pig gig is donation and dish to pass
dogs are welcome keep them on the leash and if they bark alot you might not have to many friends at night lol

oh crap, no pig? We have to have a pig for the Pig Gig. I thought that's what the $30 went towards, the pig and the breakfast.
With as many people as have been going to Rocks and Valleys on a regular basis, there should be a pretty good turn out.

Not jumping on you but these are some of the fact that people do not think about when it comes to putting on a large event.
fronting the Pig Gig takes anywhere from 500 to 1000 dollars for the Pig, something to cook the pig, Plates and fixings, drinks, side dishes etc. Getting the pig there along with tables, Peoples time. cooking the pig. clean up. and that is not including any side dishes with things to serve them in etc. when your feeding 100 to 400 people guessing how much of things your going to need and over buying can cause it to be a loss. Let alone the time it takes to put on this kind of event.
And when your charging people for this there is pleanty of room for people to become upset because they feel they are shorted for there money. and it is sad to say that there are people out there that want to see these types of event's fail and do things to make it hard for them.
Yogi posting up this weekend for everyone to come and gather I think is great and hope everyone has a great time including Yogi.:thumb:

Why not just have everyone prepay like years before, then you can afford the pig and get a better idea of how many people are coming. I think I have 5-6 for sure people going. If there is no pig I can't be sure.

We can still have a pot luck picnic . and some good old bull throwing anyways. Everyone brings some dogs and we will have a pig gig with a differant sort of pig fixins. I will spring for a bunch of buns and onions. Someone else bring more and I know some of you can make some mean tator salad. This event cant die , it just needs to adapt to the times. I may even buy a can of beans or 2 also.

I read on another site that the price for wheeling at Rocks and Valleys has now changed for this event, can anyone clean up this post to clear up all the confussion?
I.E.
Is there a cost to attend this event (besides the fee for R&V) ?
Pig or no Pig ?
Raffle or Prizes ?
R&V Price per vehicle ?
R&V Price for additional passengers ?
Is there a discount for this event, or is it standard R&V Pricing for a normal weekend ?
I don't plan on camping but it still seems like there are questions as to the cost of that as well.
Thanks.

Yogi, do you still want raffle prizes? The Unlimited crew will be up there one way or another that weekend (We're Ron's slaves, now), And I'm still willing to do whatever we can do for the Gig.

I couldn't agree more, I have only been to one pig gig and the Swamp Stompers did an awesome job with it. Before that, Yogi must have been doing something right to keep it going. We're just trying to keep it going this year. It's kinda short notice, but we'll make the best of it that we can!

If you're still interested in doing a raffle that would be cool, I'll PM you for more details.

Sometimes things need to be changed due to unseen probs. This year there is some matters that deem a change so that the event dont die, With luck it will be back to normal next year. It is more about the gathering of friends and getting 4wd people together and wheeling together than what there is to eat. I feel the food will be great anyways. We have great cookouts at the park all the time aand this should be even better. We fed the whole U.A group with little trouble. With all who attend and and contribute to this event it will survive this set back. Thanks for helping yogi out and see you soon
